Hi, guys, my tank is in its 2nd week of cycling, I have only live rocks in there. And there's lots of green algaes growing on the surface of the life rocks. Is that good or bad??
Thanks.

could just be part of the cycle, an algae bloom,
possably when the nitrates start reducing it will
subside
but i dare say G/L or whacky will give you an explanation ;)

I'm gonna wait and see if you guys get the landrovers before i say anythig

You will normally get a diatom bloom in the early stages of a new tank but this is normally red in colour,

Do you use RO water, and what are the phosphate and nitrate readings, algae only neads a small amout of both to bloom.

Hi, well, give me your address, I will send yo a LandRover post cards (^^) They are probably way cheaper in England.
Anyway, yes, they all turned red in 1 day. So, I guess that's normal, so I shouldn't worry about it I guess...
I have 33g, with Eheim filter and protein skimmer. Temperature at 78F, nitrite is around 0.4..
Thanks for the info.

Jack, you have what is called a red cyano bateria. It is very normal. Wait till it starts to form large shhets on everything..

Cutting back on lighting usually helps. Phosphates were my problem. I put floss in my sump and would keep vacuuming it out periodically till I get a step up on it. IT took a while.

It is a very normal problem though, don't get too alarmed over it. :)
