I came home from work to find that one of my bichirs had dug up some bunched plants and slipped himself into a pickle.

It wan't tight on him, just stuck - couldn't go back (he's too fat) or forward (over his fins) to get off him. It was just hanging around him like a necklace.

I had to catch him, and I carefully cut it off.

Haha!

:p LOL - maybe he thinks he's a dolphin and can swim through hoops.

Seriously, glad he's okay - great looking fish.

Haha, i agree with hte dolphin comment... next time you come home from work hell be doing little flips and jumping out of the water lol

Is it wrong to say that actually looked a bit cool? Cardboardbox, bichirs aren't picky fish at all really. Frozen foods, the occasional sinking pellet, and when they get some size on them, small fish.

EDIT: Btw wonderboy, what type of bichir is that? I figured Senegal or P. Palmas Polli.

Hey, believe me... I got my laughs!

Correct with senegal. There's 3 more senegals and one albino senegal in with him. They're not picky at all. Tipycally their diet goes between large floating cichlid pellets (an every-night staple), but every night I include something to go along with their pellets (50/50). For example - last night they had some pellets, earthworms and silversides. Tonight, I'm thinking of going with squid, shrimp, and pellets.... We'll see! And, everyday, they're always stealing comet goldfish before my ATF can get them.

unspoken930 - Flips would be amusing, but I hope I don't come home to flips; the last thing I need is a fish doing flops on the floor!!

what do you have him in there with? are they active fish?

They're rooming with an arowana, syno cat, pleco, and ATF (african tiger fish).

They aren't horribly active, slow swimmers, but always moving... they could swim very fast, but usually only when fighting over food. They're very peaceful with fish that are around their size or bigger.

do you have all those fish in your 80 gallon?

They are all in the 80, but in 10 days, my 180 will be funcional.

In the 80 gallon right now:
12" Pleco
10" Arowana
6-8" Bichirs (5 of them)
7" ATF
6" Synodontis cat

Future 80:
-4 bichirs (7-8")
-Pleco (12")
-Peacock Bass (5") (from my 75)

Future 180:
-ATF (7")
-Arowana (10")
-Albino Bichir (6")
-Syno Cat (6")
-Motoro Ray (9") (from my 75)

Future = 10 days!! -can't wait-
