Tank size: 125L
pH: 8.1
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10
kH:
gH:
tank temp: 26

Fish Symptoms 2 dead, other three staying at bottom, .
of tank not moving much, not eating. males darker in colour,
Volume and Frequency of water changes: every 2 weeks 25%

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Salt, one quarter of dose for size of tank, didn't continue as was not sure if the cherry barbs could tolerate.

Tank inhabitants: originaly 2 female and three male cherry barbs, now 1 female 2 males, 2 ballon plattys, 1 bumblebee platty
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 4 sunset plattys which seem fine added 6 days ago

Exposure to chemicals: treated for 4 days with myxazin as saw possible traces of mouth fungus on new plattys.

Hi All, hope someone can help I have now moved cherry barbs into another small tank, but dont have much hope for them, can anyone suggest anything I could try, can I use aquarium salt? I just cant work out whats gone wrong.

have you moved the cherry bards into a issolation tank.
So the only symtom to go on is darker in colour.
What does it look like when they go to the toilet.
Should of issolated the new fish for 4 weeks before adding to the tank if you have a spare tank with no fish.

Hows there breathing is it laboured.
Do they look bloated or thin.
Any sores of red streaking on body or fins.
Do they act listless and lethagic.
Are there fins clamped.

For mouth fungus in the uk which is columnaris you need to use pimafix with the myxazin.

Many thanks for you reply.
Yes they are in isolation tank, i have seen no poo since I realized something was wrong. one looks a bit sort of bent but two that died did not and they died so rapidly. They're just not swimming anywhere, but moving fins quickly. I had a platty that had mouth fungus in the isolation tank and wanted to get the new female plattys in the main tank as one male was really bullying the other and had lost female due to him harassing her. So not ideal I realize, I would have waited. But all seemed well until I put the myazin in do you think that could have caused this. I think it is like something has poisoned them almost, if I hadnt been testing every day I have thought it was water quality.

If the spine is bent it can mean old age, vitamin deficiency, fish tb, internal parasites, injury.

Signs of internal parasites can be long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
Worms prutruding from the anus,. (Camallanous worms will look hair like and red).
Fish will look skinny or bloated.
Enlarged anus to red inflamed anus.
Fish will sometimes swim on its side.
Sunken in belly.
Bent spine sometimes.

I cant see any of those symtoms but difficult to be 100% as they are obviously quite small, do you think all the fish could be affected at the same time and deteriorate so quickly at the same time with this problem? I have also noticed their fin are a bit ragged.

Yes their breathing is laboured, I dont think they are bloated or particularly thin or have any red streaks, but definately listless and lethargic, not eating and and definately not right, sorry probably not very good at picking up or describing symptons as new to this hobby. I treated the mouth fungus on the fist platty with myazin and pimafix as you said, also melafix, she has made an amazing recovery. But now this.....

If no signs of flicking and rubbing all you can do is try a bacterial med.
But when a fish spine bends it can mean what I wrote in the other replys.
I would keep a eye on the fish for tb symtoms and watch out for when they go to the toilet.
Feed some shelled peas to get them to go to the toilet.

Thanks for all your help Wilder. I see the symtoms for TB could fit, but I've looked again at the fish and think the bend is maybe just where he is trying to hold himself in the water, perhaps I shoud turn the filter off? I did not know about worming thanks.

Ok.
Get you some info.
Is it possible to load a pic up of the fish you thought look bent.
Does his tail weight him down in the water.

The third type of infection produced by Aeromonas is by no means the least. This form is often the most virulent (potent) and can be rapidly fatal. This insidious form does not produce any noticeable external ulcers. The most notable feature is a behavioral change in which the infected fish generally become listless and lethargic. Some fish may lose color or appear darker. The fish do not feed, frequently seem off balance and may sink to the bottom laying on their sides. The course of the disease is rapid, and by the time the behavioral changes are noticed, the entire population of a tank may succumb, sometimes in a day or so. This is an internal infection, with the bacteria being found in the kidneys and blood of these fish. The bacteria produce potent toxins that account for the severity of the disease.

I will try the peas, I dont think they are well enough to show any interest in eating but cant hurt to try. Sorry to seem a bit stupid but could you descibe flicking.

Also soaking there flakes in garlic juice stimulates apetite and boost the fish immune system.

Flick aind rubbing.
The fish will flick it fins and rub its body or gills on things in the tank like something irratating the fish.
