Hey guys, im setting up my 183 litre tank in the new year (well in a few weeks) and am adding my existing fish

3 ottos
2 albino and 3 peppered cory
2 dalmation molly
2 platy
1 rtbs
6 gold barbs - forgot too add these originally!!!

what would be a good fish or shoal of fish too have as the centrepiece for such a large tank? something striking? large? non aggressive?? and just too add to that I will be adding too the existing fish with more of the same varieties.

Many thanks

Stu

why not get a mix of tetras?

I have 5 neon tetras, 6 headlight and 6 harlequin tetras and they school together very impressively.

I know most people say 1" of fish to a gallon but I go by water surface area, and the more you disrupt teh surface area the more fish you can hav.

Obviously not hundreds in a tank, I was told (by my dad who's been breeding fish most of his life) you can almost double the number you think you can keep.

so a 24 gallon tank could hold 48 fish if you have sufficeint oxygenation/filtration etc.

I think you'd get away with a school of tetras. :good:

sounds good too me, will certainly consider the tetras, I did think I coul get away with quite a large amount of fish, especially as I will be using a tetratec ex1200 filter which is more than adequate for my tank

excellent, never thought of the rainbows, just checked them out and they are stunning, could well go with what I already have, although I forgot too add I have 6 gold barbs, will that hinder my selections at all???

not likely to be a problem, you have a good number of barbs and the gold barbs tend to be one of the less fin nippy.
