Okay, I know next to nothing about these fish, but my neighbour caught me unawares and I have ended up with his red tailed black shark. What am I going to do with it? The only tank I have big enough for it is my trigon 190, but I don't want him/her to eat my other fish. Stocking in this tank is as follows; 6 dwarf gouramis, 3 zipper loach, 4 albino cories, 4 ottos, 1 dwarf chain loach, 3 guppies.
This rtbs is about 2 1/2-3" are my other fish going to be safe with him/her or not?
My only other option is to section off part of my 15G until I can find a suitable home for him/her.
Please help, I'm going away for three days tomorrow and need to know it and my other fish are going to be safe until I get back.

dude ive got the same problem, except mine hasn't arrived yet. heres what i was told, please read this thread

hope this helps you like it did me :)

Thanks for that. I've had a good read and since I don't have any fish similar to the rtbs I have decided to release him into the trigon. So far so good, he/she headed straight for the slate caves. Has come out to explore a couple of times, but goes straight back into hiding if any other fish goes near the cave. Looks like I'm going to have to build some more caves as the Gouramis like to hide in there as well! Fingers crossed my peacefull tank is not about to be completely disprupted.

Well everyone has survived the first night and rtbs has stayed hidden so far this morning. Unfortunately we are now going to be away until Friday. I've asked a neighbour to come in and check on things and to move the rtbs to another tank (with divider) if there are any injuries or deaths before we get back. I have to say, I'm rather hoping it settles in, although, not a fish I would have chosen, it really is quite stunning.

enjoy your time away, hope is all well with the new addition. :)

Cheers, had a great time and all the fish have survived! The rtbs has taken a dislike to one of my female dwarf gouramis and chases her all over the tank. I've added some more caves and done a bit of rearanging and the rtbs seems to be settling in okay. Feeding time is a nightmare as he spends so long chasing everyone away, he forgets to eat. I have my local lfs on standby if I run into any problems with it, but I'd quite like to keep him now. makes a nice addition to the tank.
Good luck with yours.
