ph 7.6
amonia is 0.25
nitrite is 0
nitrate is 0

i have not put any pure amonia in the water so. according to these results my water is nearly perfect??? help

not at all...as you show no NITRATE. Cycling a tank takes weeks i am on Day 124 on one of my tanks.

Have you got fish in that tank? If so you are in a Fish-IN cycle, which requires daily waterchanges. Strongly suggest you read the Beginners section...as it covers EVERYTHING you need to know.

The cycle goes

Ammonia is turned into Nitrites (both toxic to fish)
Then the Nitrites are turned in NItrates (which isnt so toxic unless it hits 200ppm+)

It sounds to me if you HAVE got fish in there is the fish have just started to make the ammonia (wee and Poo) this will soon be turned into Nitrites and finally Nitrates.

So a far way to go yet my friend! x

IMO.....bin it...its useless.....the a-bacs and n-bacs need to go through the nitrogen cycle to breed properly.

you water isnt perfect as you have no NITRATES which are the good bacteria you need to be breeding.

oh and if you are not adding Ammonia...then you are not feeding the abacs which turn into nbacs, which what you are aiming for. They need ammonia to feed on.

If you haven't added any ammonia and you don't have fish, all your readings are showing is tapwater plus whatever they put in the Cycle. Have you checked your tapwater's levels of ammonia and nitrate? If your water company uses chloramine as a disinfectant this contains ammonia and will show up in your test.

Also just to check, with liquid nitrate testers, all of them have one bottle that needs to be shaken extremely well before use. Are you shaking yours? It is unusual to have zero nitrate in even in plain tapwater, though it isn't unknown.

i have 0 for Nitrates in my Tap water :p

tap water is 0.

i have been putting fish food in rather than amonia.
but i think i will get some amonia and do it that way. yes shaked bottles really well.

Using liquid ammonia is the safest way.

If you've been adding fishfood, it takes a few days to decompose. That may well account for the small amount of ammonia.
