Well she has been acting really strange for like a week and a half now. She keeps rubbing herself against the side of the tank. She has never done this before. A few days ago, the scale on her head turned lighter and now they look like they are peeling off. And she hasn't eaten in three days, her belly is all sunken in, and she has like two milky splotches on her tail fin. Now I thik she is close to dying, she is at the bottom of the tank, just resing there. She is still breathing, and right side-up, but she is just leaning against the ornanments. I know its probably too late, but I have fry in the tank and I need to know what it is so that I can treat it! My favorite little baby fry is in there and I don't want to lose her =O Please help!

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

It points to a number of things, parasites external, internal parasites, bacterial.

Any signs of darting, excess mucas, laboured breathing, gasping.
Check her anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
Does she look skinny or bloated.
Does she swim on her side.
Is her spine bending.
Any worms prutruding from the anus.
Any sores or red pin prick marks on the fish.

The tank is 15-17 gallons I have three 2 1/2 month old molly fry and one neon tetra (I had three but 2 came down with ich and died)
I have since treated the tank for ich and it was completly gone. She hasn't gon to the bathrom as she has not eaten in like 4 days. She suddenly has become super skinny, which is strange cause she has always been plump and healthy. She isnt swimming right now, she's hardly breathing at all. She takes a breath every 15 seconds or so. In the past couple of weeks, she has been swimming on her side and rubbing the top of her back on the side of the glass. No worms i dont think...no sores either. And I'm not allowed to use my test kit with out my dad....I'm sick and I stayed home from school. My mom is at work so I cant test it.

Ok.
How are the other fish acting.
I think I would maybe worm your fish.
She sounds to far gone to save sadly.

uhh how do you worm a fish? and now it looks like the skin on her dorsal fin is coming off. There are threads hanging of of it... =(

Is it a thread of fungus or like a thread of cotton.
Or does ti look like a parasite with a forked tail.

It looked like a thread like her tail, it was clear. And this morning I found her dead....But I still want to know what it is. =(

Sounded like columaris to me with the peeling skin, bleached excess mucas patches, thread of cotton on the fins.
Just make sure a parasite not involved.
Sunken in bellys can be bacterial to internal parasites.

Bless her.
