Hello all!

I'm not new to aquaria in general, but I've joined TFF.net in the hopes of connecting with other hobbyists to hopefully learn more about planted tanks, shrimp tanks, and even outdoor garden ponds; this seems like the place to be :) If you want to know more about me, please just ask!

Thank you for having me! I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I understand the desire for anonymity, but sometimes putting a general location helps if you're networking.

But for anyone asking, I'm from Upstate New York, just north of Canandaigua.

It helps a lot for product/equipment discussions, fish availability and such. If you're in Australia and I'm in Canada and I say "room temperature", we end up on different pages.

I think people have talked about good fish stores in Rochester NY, but I have never been there myself. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum , do you have any tanks currently and if so picture:)
Thank you for the welcome and for asking!

I’ve had tanks off and on since I was a kid in the late 70’s. Over the last few years I’ve been back to being obsessed with the salty side, and I had two small saltwater tanks going; a 10 and a 15 gallon for a couple of years. I had known when I set the up that I wanted to go larger, and long story short broke down the smaller tanks, and I am now in the process of building a 150 gallon reef tank. I am the king of slow builds, but I hope it sees water in the next few months.

I have become a big believer in quarantining all new livestock for my saltwater tanks, and with that in mind I have recently built a 25 gallon AIO to serve as a coral and motile (moving) invert QT tank. It will hold all new invertebrates for around 45-60 days to ensure they are free of fish parasites. So far it’s been running for a couple of months with just live rock, no lights, but corals coming soon. If anyone is interested, and if it’s permittable, I can post a link to this build on a salty forum.

That said, I joined TFF.net because I'd really like to up my freshwater game. I have a 15 gallon AIO tank where the plants don't do well at all. I'm hear to learn more about freshwater plant keeping, and shrimp keeping. I am also considering a very modest outdoor garden pond this year, so this seemed like a good place to be.

Thank you again for your reply here!

My friend, I get it, I do :) But for now I'm looking to meet virtual friends for knowledge. As I get more comfortable here, and if I need to engage with others for livestock or equipment, then I'll be glad to open up more at that time.

If I ever post a temp or parameter, you bet it would have a unit attached to it ;-)

Yes, the two big ones in the Rochester area are Caribbean Forrest and The Reef Shoppe. Caribbean Forrest is the original and offers only saltwater, The Reef Shoppe, which is located a block away from Caribbean Forrest, also offers freshwater. Both are excellent LFS's.

Thank you again for your reply and suggestions!

Location changed; I don't mean to get off to a bad start here :)
