Getting old, but nowhere near knackered, i just lo
just wanted to let you know that there are at present some heat packs in circulation that need just that little extra attention, there are some that are being sold with either japanese or chinese (i cant tell the difference
)writing on them and do not come with english instructions. THESE heat packs work to the standard that they should do but b/c of the lack of instructions i thought i would take the time to tell you that you may need to leave the pack to stand for 10-15mins to active fully before adding them to any shipment, ive found on several occasions that the heat packs have failed but even though the bettas were alive at the final destination they couldve had a more pleasant journey.
I recently switched to this brand but my old brand became activated with in 2 mins of contact with air and i could then proceed with the packing but these different ones need the extra time to work and should not be left in the open sleeve in the parcel, a few pin pricks in the parcel will also help with a tiny supply of oxygen to keep the packs active for up to 48 hours but without this they will fail and put the shipment at risk, ive got this info from the supplier of these packs after complaing about the product and they have asked me to place a note on a major forum stating this fact to help others with this issue.
Im due to send out 3 different parcels with these heat packs in them and send them back to myself to test out which is the best method to maintain the heat required. one will be by special next day delivery, one by 48 hours delivery and one by recorded delivery, i know its not legal to send fish via 48 hour deivery but my parcels will be fishless and i want to see exactly how long they last during these 3 different services which would give an idea of what could happen with if there was a delay in shipment, each parcel will have a fish tank thermometer inside them so i can record the final temp at the point of opening, will also be buying in different heat packs to test each one in the same methods and will let you know about my findings.
