Head Butting Figure Eights

i have had 2 figure eight pufer fish for quite a while now, who have got on famously since i got them three years ago when they were just 0.5 inches long. However recently i have found them staring at each other heads pressed upon against the others, which seems to last a while then all of a sudden their off swimming around the tank with each other like best of friends. is this normal behavour ?

They aren't sociable, so yes, aggression is certainly possible. A lot depends on the size of the aquarium. Two figure-8s in a 10 gallon tank would be pretty risky!

cheers , they are how ever kept in a 60 gallon well planted tank origianly just had it as a aqua scaped set up with mainly plants , but then the snails took over
