In my 96 litre tank i have

1 Moonlight Gourami
1 Indian Gourami
4 Yellow Panchax
8 corys

It looks rather empty, would it be acceptable to put hatchet fish in? If not them then would you have any ideas?

thanks for your help everyone x

please remember hatchet fish (specifically those from the genuses Carnegiella, Thoracocharax & Gasteropelecus) can fly, rather than jump.

flights have been recorded for
Carnegiella marthae (5 feet)
Carnegiella strigata strigata (10 feet)
Gasteropelecus maculatus (12 feet)
Gasteropelecus sternicla (10 feet)
Thoracocharax securis (9 feet)
they acheive this great feat by rapidly beating their pectoral fins.
not a great flight by bird standards but enough of a concern for aquarists.

as long as the tank has a well fitting lid, preferably with glass sliding covers,
then there should be no accidents.
keep in mind the hatchets ability at all times, especially at matainence time and you should be fine.

Thank you, i love you too
Hopefully will get some next weekend if i can find anywhere that has them :) x

Ok well i was going to get some of these dudey fish but i couldn't find any anywhere in Lincoln:eek:( Does anyone know of any place that has them near by?

Is there any other fish you could recommend that would go nicely in my tank with my other fish? I like the look of glass catfish but hear they can be rather sensitive so i wouldn't want them to get stressed out.

Please let me know any ideas you may have.

Thank you x
