Hi all,

My Hagen Co2 System arrived today! :hyper:

I did everything as per instructions, and it seemed like it was working.....bubbles started to come out of the tube and enter the diffuser, however they didn't climb up the ladder like I thought they were supposed to, so anyway, charging in head first as usual, I took the tube off the canister and blew through it just to see what would happen...........anyway this obviously dropped the pressure in the canister and when I put the tube back obviously no bubbles came out. (I read after that the ladder usually dosn't work properly for 24-48 hours!)

I thought this would sort itself out after an hour or so, but it hasn't! It's been a couple of hours now and no bubbles yet. This should have been quicker than it was origionaly right? the yeast has already activated?

I unscrewed the canister after 2 hours and did not hear any pressure being released. Everythng seems to be tight. This means no Co2 is being released from the yeast right?

The drop in pressure wouldn't kill/stop the yeast from prducing Co2 would it?? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Steady on barday! everytime you open the canister or remove the tube it releases all teh pressure

It takes 24 hour before you see the first bubbles, sometimes more.

In my experience it takes about 5 days or so before you get maxmium flow

I have 2 of these units and the 1st one took around 5days to kick in with bubble flow and then a further couple of days for the bubbles to settle without getting stuck, the 2nd one has taken a lot longer to settle in.... give it time and it will work :D

Whilst we are on the subject of Hagen units!! what do other people fill theirs with? i'm due to run out of the packet stuff after my next top up and i don't fancy having to spend money on the packet stuff again if i can create my own mixture.

When putting the ladder in the tank, do you think the deeper the better / the opposite or dosen't it make any difference?

I have two units in my Juwel Rio 125. I use supermarket yeast (activator) and bi-carbonate of soda (stabiliser). They're much cheaper and it allows me to increase the co2 output by adding more yeast. I change the solution every 14-20 days and have acheived wonderful results. I use nearly half teaspoon of yeast, level teaspoon of bicarb, fill just over the line with sugar and over the line with water (slightly warmer than tepid which gets the bubbles started much quicker). The bubbles are flowing normally after 2 hours, max flow after 3 days, constant for about 10 days then slowly dwindling after 14. I change the mixture when there are 3 bubbles or less in the diffuser. HTH
