I have a 20g flat hexagon tank with 2 guppies, 2 albino kribs, 2 swordtails, 1 golly, and 1 molly. I used to have another female guppy, but she died 2 days ago, she was perfectly fine, i did a water change and i found her dead, and none of the other fish had any side affects. Thinking it was a fluke, i took her back today and found one of the best looking males i have ever seen, so i bought him. I went to read harry potter, then fell asleep, and when i woke up, i found him laying at the bottom of the tank dead, and he looked perfectly fine, and didnt look harrased. Can someone help me. I dont think it is my water, cause i have plants, and i use Amquel plus to keep everything in check.

hows the petstore, both could have had somesort of disease or parasite

haven't you said before you don't have a test kit? might be wise to take a water sample in to the store and see if you haven't had an ammonia or nitrite spike. remember, you can't say it's NOT your water if you don't know.

If my mom will take me back to the petstorre to take the guppy in, i will have the water checked. I just cant belive it might be my water, i have a golly, and a molly, and gollys are supposed to be fragile, and mollies are supposed to need good water. Plus none of my other fish seem to be having any problems. About sickness. The female i bought from petsmart, no matter how much i hate petsmart, there guppies are cheap and they are healthy. The male i bought from my favorite lfs and there guppies usually are shimming and i asked my freind who works there about them and he said that the guppies they get are from chicago( around 3 hours away) and when they get there, they are shimming because of stress. I just cant comprehend the fact it could be my water when i have spent a fair amount of money trying to keep the water in check.

well, i'm not saying that it IS, just that it's best to be able to rule it out. My suggestion would be to take store credit on that guppy if you can and just wait for a bit regardless of your water conditions. if something's wrong with your water then you will need time to get that sorted, if nothing is wrong with your water then it may be that that batch of guppies is...unwell.

Sometimes, though, no matter what you do fish die and you can't always tell why. It's frustrating but the only thing to be done is keep an eye on them. I had a batch of endlers and every single female eventually grew ill and died even after removal of the males to prevent stress, isolation, various treatments, and water tests. No other fish that had been living with the endlers got sick, including the males which had come from the same tank at the store.

I have the same problem with angels. I have never been able to keep them for more than 3 weeks, even with perfect water conditions. Ohh well, i will probably get credit and try to save up on a freshwater liquid master test kit from api.
