Hi

I currently have a three spot gourami, she is in a 10Gal tank and soon will be moved to a 40Gal tank, I was wondering if by the time I buy this bigger tank, would it be "OK" to keep at least 5 guppies with her

Would there be a problem, either for the guppies or for the Blue Gourami????

btw, at the moment, there are 3 Black Widow Tetras with this Gourami, but since someone here told me that they are nippers they will NOT be in the same tank as the Guppies.

I never had a problem with my black skirts/widow tetras nipping my guppie's fins but meh...

I am concerned about adding guppies with the gourami though. I had a blue gorami in a 30g and she was quite aggressive towards any fish... but it might depend on each individual fish though...

ohh noo...really !?

she seems a bit temperamental, a male Gold Gourami just died, and it was in part because she was bulling him. I havent seen any problems towards the Tetras thought, but then again they are 3 and maybe I havent yet noticed if there was any bulling

If your 3 spots personality is a bit aggressive, and your certain shes a female, I suggest getting a male of a different variety but same genus (ie a colour morph), like a platinum. Slightly bigger maybe... they will hopefully be much more interested in each other than the other than any other fish, and they are rather entertaining paired. If its a male then get a female. Just a suggestion. :D

I had a female platinum gourami who was smaller than the guys but she was more dominant than they were, but they kept her entertained. When she wasn't with other 'ramis she wasn't quite herself though.

If you add new things to a tank dominated by a three-spot gourami, it'll view them as 'intruders' and attack them. Don't add anything at all.

Adding a male is also a bad idea. besides the fact that the tank's too small for even one and that males should be kept with two or more females ultimately, it would not improve the guppies' chances as males are even more territorial than females (once mature). Particularly if he were larger, though she'd at first regard him as an itnruder also, he'd gradualy take over.

well, then this is a NO NO for guppies, or any other fish for that matter.

Like I said, she "killed" another three spot gourami, he was bigger than her, although it was most likely because of lack of space, and I thought that they only bullied their own kind, but why risk it, even in a bigger tank :(

thanks for your comments
