hello there

I've recently acquired a new 12 gallon tank (60cmx31cmx30cm) and was thinking of making my second tank a livebearer tank with a bunch of guppies in there.

My question/s being in a 12 gallon how many guppies can I get in there?

I'm hoping you'll say about 10 (2 males 8 females) asI think this would be a nice amount to have.

Secondly I was thinking of putting some cory's in there and again was wondering how many to go for again hoping I should be able to put say 6 in there?

Then last of all ... and this may seem a little cruel to some but I was thinking of putting one last fish in there as kind of "crowd control" I'm basically looking for something that might eat some of the fry just to make sure I don't suddenly have 8 million guppies and only two tanks :S.

Again this would have to be of suitable adult size to go in this size of tank.

Cheers

Robert

i don't know much about guppies, but the only corys you should keep in a tank that size are pygmy corys. also, corys need clean water, so massive overstocking is not recommended.

Cool yeah I had been looking at the pygmy cory's so do you reckon 6 would be ok in that size tank?

What? Six cory's in a 12 gallon? Think again, pal.

I'd say 2 at most, maybe three. As for the guppies I would say 2-3 females and 1 male. You really ought to get a bigger tank because the gups will very soon over populate the 12 gallon tank.

Cool man seeming as I already have a 12 gallon tank sat here what stuff would people recommend I wnat quite a nice busy tank again with reasonably colorful fish ... the main thing I don't want is bettas as I'm setting up a seperate betta bowl for a single male but that will come later.

so yeah 12 gallon with colourful fish in it ..... help :S

Tetras are very active and colorful. Plus, they're easy to care for and breed too. They do not grow very big so you could have 6-8 of them in the 12 gallon.

umm, 6 pygmy cories is fine for a 12 gallon, you could add more......pal.

Hmm any other opinions really not sure what to do so far

I had my mind kinda pinned on the guppies and corys for a minute there

Harlequin rasboras would be great! They're a schooling fish so about 6 would be nice. They're a very pretty red.

Or if you really want the guppies, I would just get males. Cause I'm sure having 2 males with 8 females like you originally said you wanted would very quickly overpopulate the tank.

How is 6 pygmys in a 12 gallon too many? I've had 7 in a 6 gallon and currently have 21 cories in a 29 gallon. Pygmy cories are very, very tiny.
