I'm just wondering if you think a Green terror and a Red Devil could live together? I have a GT and a Jack Dempsey in a 50 gallon tank and they are both so mean. They've been the only ones in the tank together since they were babies and the only other fish I could think of aggressive enough to live with a GT is a Red Devil. Both kinds of fish remind me of the other, so that's why I thought maybe it will work, OR, do you think they will fight til death or until I feel bad enough to go get ANOTHER tank because of getting their butt beat by the other? They are both such cool fish, and I would love to have the together in my tank, plus only 2 fish in a 50 gallon isn't that much fun. Any info or suggestions????
Thanx

If i you were I wouldnt put anything with a rd but a big armor plated pl*co. Mine was a real bully. Although that is one of the things I liked about him. He was pretty fiesty. And pretty big.

The short answer is no, all large aggressive cichlids need a minimum of 50 gallons per fish so you can keep only one species in your tank.

i saw both together in a 20 gallon tank at a lfs...

im not recommending it.. im just saying ive seen probably 1 foot long each barely able to move at the lfs.... 50 doesnt sound big enough tho for 3 fish of that size... sounds like your getting away with 2 alright, but 3 is definately pushing it

pet stores are just keeping the fish in a temporary tank so they are always overcrowded. only thing i keep with mine is a pleco. ive had a pair but things went sour and i found her dead. your gt is also a slow grower while devils grow fast.

i have a devil and a green terror in my 150 and they dont even look at each other, my green severum on the other hand chases the devil but doesnt do any harm...weird. i would just keep the devil, they make great pets, intelligent and active. i wouldnt recommend putting a terror in with your devil because of room issues and it sounds like your devil is a real nasty...

devil and gt wouldnt work in a 50. way too small territory. ive raised docile devils but mostly just monsters. either way, when devils are pushed to a certain point theyll fight until one dies. thats odd that a severum is in control over a devil, how big are they?

I keep 2 Red Devils and a Green Terror in my 120, they don't fight, probably because their both concentrating on being bigger than the arrowanas mouth :D I breed both species, and I've kept the young together in 55gallons of water, but when they mature, they don't get along.

Jinx, if you were hoping to keep a more crowded tank I highly recommend reconsidering the type of cichlids you want to keep - these big, aggressive new worlds are not the best choices for community tanks, and while tons of people do it, the fish are not being provided an ideal environment (except for the few who actually have huge tanks to deal with it).

they are both about the same length, probably 4 to 5 inches but severums are rounder. i dont get it either, i thought severums were relatively peaceful. the severum only chases him if he gets too close, the devil scampers off like a little girl...
