I have been having a bit of a problem with green spot algae over the past few months growing over the plants in my tank, it doesn't seem to be growing on anything else but the plants. Is there anything i can do to stop this growth and to get rid of it completely. The plants seem to be ok and if anything seem to be growing quite well (considering i'm a bit of a newbie and have had no experience with either fish or plants before - tank has been set up for about 4 months). All parameters & fish seem to be ok:-

Ammonia:0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10-20
Ph: 7.8

The lights are on for 10 hours per day, in 2 x 5 hour slots (7am-12pm) & (4.00pm-9pm)

Is there anything else i can do to get rid of the algae problem - please ask any questions to help with suggestions.

Thanks !

ottos, buy ottos!
Sorry, but ottos do not eat green spot algae. I don't think any fish does. The only way I can get rid of it is to scrape it off the glass with a razor blade, credit card, or the like.

I usually don't see it on my plants. I did a google search and found this "I clean my glass weekly to take care of it. I noticed some growing on the older leaves of my Anubias coffeefolia. To control that, I re-arranged some plants, so the slow-growing anubias doesn't get so much direct light. This has greatly decreased the green-spot algae on the plant leaves."

So maybe the answer is to slowly reduce the lighting a bit each day? What kind of plants do you have? I have all low light plants so I can get by with < 10 hours of light per day.
