Hello.

Iv'e had my puffers for a week now and they had a little bit of white wool stuff on there UPPER top fins.

And it has gotten a little more on just mainly one off them. rest seem to be ok and one more has a tiny amount?

Can anyone help me with this and direct me how to treat them.

Regards,
Paul

Had this sort of stuff on an angel i rescued. Was advised to keep water clean and do water changes. I used some melafix for the fins to grow back (i think it was melafix, dont remember which one it was (its the one that says fungul infections/cottony growth)), assuming the fins are actually damaged.

I think that was all tha was advised for me. Good luck. Should try to get a picture to maek sure its the same thing and allow others to identify.

they only have fin damage from nipping??? does this need melafix? i was told use melafix if hey get cloudy eyes?

Also for the fungas stuff, its a little white wool stuff on the top fins off the puffers?, do i just need to do regular changes for this or do i need to treat.

I hope you can guide me through, and i will also go do a 20% water change for now, till i get more peoples replies :good:

Thanks,
Paul

Heres a link to my topic:

Take a read in there. I suggest you find a picture for people to identify. Is the cottony growth on the areas of the fin that were torn or nipped? Does it look like my angels cottony growth (link below):

Heres a pic for reference:

That was at the beginning it eventualy spred to the top fins, the feelers, and the side fins. In that order.... Angel is now happy and healthy now :) Eats out of my hand now :D

Here he is now(month or two later):

Yes i would say in the eaerly stages and its only shown on the nipped fins, where the puffers have been nipped, but only on the top fins on the top of puffer.

Im unable to take good photos but i would say it looks like the picture and its only little amount?

Do i need to treat or do water changes????? Hope you can help has my camera isnt good :(

Anyone help please this is quite urgent has i need to know if iam needed to go out and buy anything for them or if water changes will be enough?

Thanks

The white cottony growth is most likely a fungas. Keeping the water clean will help but depending how much it has spread it could very well use an external fungas medication.

As for the fin nipping... are you sure it is fin nipping? Fin rot is a common occurance that happens in parrallel with white cottony fungas growth which can much resemble fin nipping. A common fungas medication should prevent this at the same time.

Hope I could help more. GL

Would you recommend anything.

Ive heard primafix should be used for the gungas? if not could some one recommend anything to me, and yes ill keep doing reg water changes aswell.

Also yes ive seen them nipping has they seemed to be nipping one another in the LFS where i got them.

Hope you can help and thanks again.

If it was near the mouth it could have been Mouthrot, but sounds to me like Fungus, this can be treated with water changes or using INTERPET nO8 aNTI fUNGUS AND fINROT TREATMENT.

ok so iam recommended to do regular water changes for now? or do both changes and add treatment???

Hope you can direct me to the best way :good:

thanks,
Paul
