Gravel - 'new' Smell

I washed the gravel (proper aquarium gravel) as per usual and put it in the tank, but it's quite smelly, like paint/chemicals, and when I lift the tank lid it's still smells. any comments.ideas.suggestions. or is it ok?

you sure the smell is not coming from the tank itself?

Positive, the gravel smelt like that out the bag, but I washed it so thought it would go

I've had the same thing happen to me. The smell faded and went after about 2-3 days, during this time there were no fish in the tank as the filter was being cycled.

I'm gonna have to take it out and boil it, I don't usually need to do that

Edited to ask: WILL IT AFFECTING THE FISH INSIDE (BETTA)??
