well when i bought one gal tank it came with a airstone it came with the under gravel stand for the air stone to plug into, it has slots in it and im afraid to not put gravel in my tank because fry would get cought in the slots and die, so should i put gravel in my tank or what should i do, i really like the airstone attachment it looks like a underwater waterfall. well im wondering what i should do??? i want that tank for my fry (if i get any :( ) just til they get big enought to go in my other tank
when mum has her babys it's only about three fry im really stuck on how to put this and what to do please help!!!!

im pretty sure but not positive that maybe putting gravel in a fry tank is a bad thing my guppy is very due and from the stories ive heard they can easily die that way i hope i helped good luck on your fry :D

yah i know gravel is bad, :/ they get stuck in it too as well, but i heard on this forum that with fry you should have good temp and if possible airstone to keep water moving, to help keep fry alive, so i don't know what to do!

i dont understand how your air stones are set up because mine would still work with or without gravel

yah my airstone filter will still work without gravel, but the airstone has a stand like undergravel filter lays all over the buttom of tank, and im afraid that my fry will go in the slots ( millions everywhere in the stand) would i be able to put sand in the tank in stead of gravel (just came to mind) how is fry with sand is it better for them i am going to post a message just of that but please help do you know what i mean now it's really hard for me to explain better sorry!!!

if you put sand the water will get clouded if you ever pu a net or something in that
will move the water.I recomend you put tiny gravel of the same size. fry dont get
stuck in them

NO UNDER GRAVEL FILTER

Thats a no no.The babies are going to get caught and die.just leave the tank botton bare.It would be better for the fry, they wont get caught and any fallen food particles would be expossed so the babies can get to it.

I have a filter (not undergravel) and I have gravel in my tank where my fry are So far, none of them have been sucked into the filter or stuck in the gravel. I still have all 12. I guess I have smart babies. haha

I would leave the tank bare bottomed with some plants in it (live or fake) until the fry can handle not being sucked into the filter. You will have to clean the tank more than you would like but it's worth it!! :D

The best bet would be to go buy an inside the tank filter. The fry won't get pulled into it and your tank won't get really nasty either. Undergravel filters are bad for fry because, like all children, they are stupid and will commit suicide.

I have quite fine gravel in my breeding tank, so there are no big holes that the fry can get stuck in. Mine have all been fine. They also keep clear of the filter, and so far none of them have gone missing.

My LFS has something that looks like sand, but it's black and purple and gorgeous. It may also come in other colors, but it's very heavy apparently. It doesn't move around, the filter doesn't suck it up. It seems nice. I'll see if I can find out what it is for you.

Edit: Black Tahitian Moon Sand. That's the stuff!
