Hi,
I am in the process of taking a certified Herbalist Course. I have always been interested in Natural methods of taking care of health problems. My question is-if something is good for humans, wouldn't it be ok for animals? I got to thinking about my Clown loach getting Ich. Since this is a bacterial thing and if humans have bacterial infections and can take GrapeFruit Seed Extract as a preventative/curative then why could'nt I use it for my fish in small amounts? It also is an anti-infective, anti-fungal that has been used by tons of people, myself included for fungal infections such as candida, etc. I take it daily all the time as a precautionary measure to combat infections before they start. So what do you guys think? I think i am going to email my instructor and ask him too.

Ich is not a baterial infection, it is actually a small parasite that burrows into the fish.

By doing this, you are exposing the target to the curative measure. This has the habit of promoting resistant strains rendering the curative useless. That is why many anti-biotics no longer work, and they are not handed out like sweets anymore. Even worse with malaria drugs.

If you're into natural remedies, you might be interested to know that Melafix, a fish medicine commonly used for fungal infections, minor bacterial infections and for wound healing is actually a soluble form of tea-tree oil.
