As I was saying in another thread I took the 6 male guppies I got a few weeks ago back to the lfs. They turned out to be holy terrors that tried to constantly dominate each other and mate with all the female swordfish.

Netting them was almost nothing. I stuck the net in and scooped them all out.

When I took them to the lfs I told him the deal and usually they give you 1/3 credit for what they sell the fish for and you can use this on anything else in the store. He gave me a full refund for these fish and then he added that to my existing credit which turned out to be enough to get 14 cardinal tetras and a huge bottle of Seachem Prime that is probably going to last me for a year! :D :D :D

I wasn't planning on cardinal as you usually don't see them and they are said to be too sensitive....but someone on here suggested I keep an eye out for them as they're a little more big and colorful than the neons. Well they had em and the guy working there didn't even know they had em....they were in one of the bottom tanks.

I was shooting for a tank of schooling fish where about 3 different small sets of fish school back and forth from one end of the 55 gallon to the other, and neons are very good about constantly doing this. These cardinals, so far, are not doing that. They are kinda bunched up, but not very active right now. Maybe they just need to get used to the tank?

Anyway....they sure are beautiful against the black gravel and lowered lighting and amongst the red swordtails!! :)

When I get the other schooling fish in here I want.....I'll see what I can do to get some good pics up on there to let yall see my tank! :good:

Thanks furryrabbit.

I counted them for the first time a while ago taking it for granted that he counted them correctly and it turns out he gave me 15 instead of 14! :D

They have also started schooling more actively. :hyper:

oh I LOVE cards! I had a school of 10 and never once had a problem with them. They just swim together and looked sooo pretty.

Cardinals are wonderful, a little timid at first but once they'v settled in they can give even fish like zebra danios a run for their money. Nice choice!

Agreed, seanc.

In fact, cards are one of the toughest fish i've had, surprisingly. I first bought them apprehensively, because of their rep as delicate fish. But they've been going sturdily in my tank, and i love their colour. One of the few non-monster fish that i really love :D

P.T.

gorgeous fish we've had 5 for nearly 3 yrs with no problems..........you'll find they get bolder as they settle in & will spend more time pottering around by themselves & sticking to their own little spot of 'territory'.
enjoy!
