I'm trying to look for some good online fish stores to buy stuff from (I feel like going on a shopping spree for fish lol) and I was wondering if anyone knew any good online stores in the USA. (or stores that would ship the the USA and not charge insane amounts for shipping)

And no wholesale sites please.

These are the sites I know of so far so please don't suggest them:

www.franksaquarium.com - Frank's Aquarium
www.liveaquaria.com - Foster and Smith
www.aquariumfish.net - Aquarium Fish
www.petsolutions.com - Pet solutions
www.thatfishplace.com - That Pet Place Fish Section
www.aquabid.com - goold old aquabid

I REFUSE TO USE EBAY!

The top sites I'm looking for are ones that sell Natives like Bowfin and sunfish.

Hi meepster :)

I just wanted to say that while Drs. Foster and Smith are great for supplies, equipment and medicines, I've had a very bad experience with them and their live fish. Half my order came through dead and the others were not the same species they had advertised.

It seems that they do not ship their own fish directly, but take orders and forward them to someone else for filling. I will say that their customer service department is outstanding and they did make good on the order. :D

Most people have negative things to say about foster and smith. Their "red star flowerhorn" for $25 came as a RD with the same coloration....

IMO, I don't trust them.

I use thatpetplace for supplies and pet solutions for live fish. I haven't had a single problem with either one of them, and the fish from pet solutions were excellet quality, w/all arriving alive, and considering it's summer in Kansas, that's saying something.

I have ordered a cobalt lobster and anunbias nana plants tied to driftwood from them and have been impressed with their quality. The lobster was in great condition as were the anubias nana I ordered. The driftwood was not el cheapo either. Sounds like it is just luck of the draw when ordering from them.

wow thanks... but I'm kind of going for the smaller stores where they have fish that big stores like TFP and DFS don't have. (like bowfin *wink**wink*)

Hi meepster :)

I think your best bet would be to buy online from the folks at AquaBid. I've been very happy with the fish I've bought there.

Before you bid, take the time to send an email to the seller of the fish you are interested in. Ask whatever you would like to know about the fish. Before you buy you might want to know if they were tank raised or wild caught, how old or large they are, etc. You should get a fairly prompt and courteous reply that provides the answers you are looking for. I find it a helpful way to judge the character of the person you are dealing with, and through that the kind of deal you will get. If the person is evasive or doesn't seem to know much about the fish he is selling, forget about him and look further.

Since many of the sellers import or breed the fish the are selling, they often have additional fish that they will sell at the winning bid price to people who have lost out on the auction. It doesn't hurt to ask. :D
