Depends on how much you already know. Do you need a book to tell you how the nitrogen cycle works, what lighting you need, how to maintain the PH etc, or are you more experienced and need a book to tell you purely about the livestock?

Aquarium Fishes Of The World by DR Herbert R Axelrod is a good comprimise. It has a good fish section and also a good section on the science and technique of fishkeeping.

Bensch Aquarium Atlases for the more advanced hobbyist. No information on the science of water, just fish, fish, fish.

A good general book is 'Tropical Fishlopaedia' by Mary Bailey and Peter Burgess
Excellent for basic illness knowledge and analysis

The Baensch atlases are in my opinion the best books you can buy for general information on pretty much every fish you are likely to encounter in your average fish store, books 1 and 2 cover all the usual suspects and books 3 and 4 get into some of the less known fish, if you can read German i believe they are up to book 6 now!

you generally cant go wrong with anything by authors Axelrod or Burgess. :good:
