Can someone give me some tips for feeding these guys? I got them today, and I'm not quite sure how you feed them. Mostly, I have experience with small charcarins and cories, but I'm kinda at a loss as how to feed the Rams since they don't surface feed and don't snuffle through the substrate.

I was somewhat happy to see them pecking at the bottom-feeder tablets with the cories, but I thought the rams were supposed to be mostly carnivorous . . . as in, shouldn't they be against eating algae wafers?

Rams eat almost anything! try giving them some flakes to begin with, they will most likely eat them, but if they don't, try again the next day, eventually they will eat the food when they get hungry.

Flakes usually sink down anyway, so they shouldn't have much problem getting some

I give my rams frozen brine shrimp and sinking pellets (Tetra Prima), mine dont go for flake either but most of my fish are picky eaters anyway :)

wat eva i fish i get eats flakes from my tank. including my keyhole cochlids and my black ghost!

All my ramis gold,or blues go to the surface. All you really need are a few fish in your tank used to go up for flakes; The ramis will see this and eventually learned.
This goes for all fish basically, some shy ones will see others go for food and learn to do the same.

I dunno how much different the ramizeris are, but my bolivians really dig the Kent cichlid pellets (CichlidExtreme i think is the name), they sink. They also take flake (i release it under the surface so it doesn't float), the Wardley cihlid crumbles (sinking), and even the Hikari micro pellets i feed the cardinals. I'd like to get them Hikari sinking cichlid food (Cichlid complete i think it's called) but i can't find it except online, only the floating type. I tried frozen bloodworms but the tetras went so crazy for them i'm not sure if any got down to the rams or not.

I saw some Hikari food for red discus i was considering trying on them for variety, anyone know if there is some reason that would be bad?

Mine are really diggin' on the dried or frozen brine shrimp. They're lukewarm on the bloodworms but also do flakes really well. Mine aren't really going to the surface either but whenever the shrimp or flakes drift down, they're all over it!

I have blue rams, but they're the same as gold, just a color variation.

I feed mine flakes, frozen bloodworms, cichlid granules and hikari cichlid staple. I also feed them algae wafers once a day. I have read that they are actually NOT carnivorous, they need more veggie than meat foods. I can try to find that info again if you'd like. The rams will eat off the surface. My rams AND my discus do it, although its much harder for the discus!
