Going Trough Mini Cycle

My tank has got sand substrate and yesterday I bought aload new plants for it and planted them.
Today though my tank seems to be going through a cycle again. 4 male guppies and 2 madagascar rainbows died today.

I think that maybe turning up the sand when planting might of brought up a lot of poo and stuff.
My ammonia and nitrite are both up at 1, and ive done two 40% water changes already today

If this is a mini cycle as opposed to a normal, how long on average does a mini cycle take cos there's more fish there, and i dont have a spare tank to house fish until its finished.
Also any ideas on how i can make this easier for the fish

Just keep up the daily water changes to try and keep ammonia and nitrites as near to zero as possible.Mini cycles don't usually last long.
