Getting Rid Of Algae

I know the best way to combat algae is to heavily plant a new tank but what is the best method of getting it off the glass and other items in the tank?

Glass: get one of these magnets which clean the glass.

Other: Depends, ornaments probably best to take out and scrub

I do think its important to address why you have algae in the first place, rather than just cleaning it off.
