Also, if it is a bad combination, what are some good middle/top swimmers that will get along with German Blue Rams, that are also between 3"-8" when full grown? (Doesn't have to be Cichlids)

mostly live beaers and peaceful tatras such as neons and cardinals but thats for another forum. definitly no to severums.........probably key hole cichlids could go with them and gold and bolivian rams aswell

Get a species of tetra, i'd go for neon, glowlights or cardianal's myself. Severums wouldn't go.

gold and bolivian rams aswell

I wouldn't put anymore rams in the tank, since they can get quite territorial and aggresive if a pair is formed and foreign fish are introduced into their territory

but he has a 40 gal! so if he gets one gold and one bolivian it wouldn't do anything unless they somehow cross breed :hey: -_-

didn't see it was a 40 gallon :X

anyway, i still stick by what i said. Rams stick to the bottom of the tank, by having only for rams in a 40 gallon seems like a huge waste of space to me! Maybe a pair of dwarf gourami and a school of tetras would be a better option.

Also, he asked for top/middle dwellers!

yep thats wat i mentioned in my first post.

peaceful tatras such as neons and cardinals

I got a bolivian in a comunity but he mostly hangs out with my key hole so i think he should get some small key holes wich are preety cool.

i totally agree about what you said about tetras being a good idea.

I am just correcting what you said about rams, thats all! no need to get defensive about it

hehehe sorry.

i sometimes get like that :X :*) :p

I just got my bolivians and cardinals and they are quite lovely together, the cardinals are a big hit with everyone that looks in the tank. However the cardinals don't really swim in the upper reaches, they stay near the substrate. That may be because my tank is so shallow (12" deep). Maybe you'd like dwarf neon rainbows, they would be nice companions.

My blue rams and neon tetras are doing really well - completely ignoring each other :p My tetras hang out all over, but do mostly hang out higher up than the rams.
