hi

one of my dwarf rainbows has a small area of white fungus on him, it is fluffy- almost like cotton wool.

What is the best treatment for him, unfortunately i dont have a hospital tank to put him in, could i treat the whole tank with anti-fungus med?

i live in UK, what is the best medication to buy

thanks

With rainbows its usually a sign of bad water quality, not necessarily ammonia or nitrIte but high nitrAtes (anything above 20ppm for rainbows) that is the cause of fungus on then, I would suggest using pimafix and myxazin to clear it up, however, you may find a few good water changes should help too, its usually a good idea to 2 x 30-40% water changes weekly with rainbows in the tank to keep the nitrAtes low or they do get mouth fungus fairly easily. Do a water change and then dose with meds, remember to remove your carbon from the filter.

cheers, will do this when im back from work.

I did a massive re-scape last week i fear this may have affected him.....will do a big waterchange then dose with a med... is it in the whole tank...?

will i have to dose weekly? daily? or W/C after i have dosed?

my stats have been steady for a while, but havent checked them in about a month as the tank is quite mature so have stopped constantly testing it...will test tonight for high nitrites

thanks

Yes dose the whole tank, I cant remember what the dosing is, but follow the instructions for both and dose as advised. Be careful with the myaxzin, if anything slightly undose as it can effect your filter bacteria if you overdose. Use them both together (it is safe to do and recommended with columnaris/mouth fungus) and hopefully caught in time it should clear up pretty quickly. Once the dosage has finished, yes do a 30% water change and add carbon to your filter to remove the last of the meds.

hi, went to LFS at lunch i bought interpet number 8, the shop assisitant said it was just as effective as the API stuff. It says itis used for fungus and fin rot so hopefully should clear it up sharpish...this sis my first real experience with meds...so i iwll see how it goes.

I dont have a carbon pad in my filter will this effect my tank once the dosage stops? should i water change before dosing?

I would do a water change before dosing, cleaner water is always helpful. If you dont have carbon then dont worry, just dose as per instructions, Ive never used no8 so I cant say how effective it is, but good luck and let us know how he gets on :)
