From The Aquarium and Pet History Museum newsletter, two very different photographs that depict how big and widespread the boom was in our hobby in the 1950s.

I knew Churchill had a goldfish pond that he immortalized in paintings but did not know he had tropicals. And they didn't mention his most favorite pet, a budgie, Toby, who perched (and pooped) on his shoulder even during top secret meetings during the War.

The email i idid not get did not say what kind of fishes churches keep.
 
The lady of the house has a light touch feeding their fish. She must be a knowledgeable aquarist. But the fish suffered from second hand smoke.

At least they didn't make the fishes smoke which is a bit surprising in itself.

Here is a letter he wrote to a supplier, Whitwell, who gifted him mollies and bettas which were apparently his first two species. He kept upwards of 150 species over the course of his hobby years.
