I have a 1.016 bw tank, crushed coral substrate, with Scats & Monos. I want to take the salinity level to 1.020 so that I may start using Live Sand & Live Rock. My question is this...

Once I get the salinity level safely to 1.020, what would be the best way to switch out my crushed coral with the live sand.

Do I need to remove my fish?
Will I have a cycle?

Thanks
Scott

I dont think thats a good idea, live rock usually comes straight out of reefs were there are few if any brackish fish. Not saying it cant be done, just out of place.

Your crushed coral is already "live" with the bacteria that lives in it now. The live sand is no different, just a bunch of bacteria in a bag of wet sand. You dont even have to switch the two out. Just place the sand over top of the crush coral.

Take your time when you add it and change the sal and your will not have to cycle.

Why isn't a good idea? I used live rock in my brackish tank full of scats, monos and gsps. What would your concen be?
