You'd think after spending $200 on this damn thing it would be a great filter, hell no!!! I just had my second one just STOP working on me in less than 3 months!!! I will never ever buy another fluval again!!!! Just decided to take the hit and bought an Eheim 2028 on ebay, hopefully it will not be a piece of junk like the fx5.

I hate Fluval filters, i doubt you'll have any problems with the Eheim. I have a Pro II and its silent, never had a problem....love it!!

can't say the same for any Fluval!

Unfortunately we have 3 fluval externals and i hate every single one of them and dread the day when they need cleaning.
They will slowly be replaced with ehiem filters i think,

I've had a 2nd hand FX5 for ages (until I moved) and it was the best filter I've ever used. Never failed once and is still running now on Lisa's tank. :good: Sorry you've had a bad experience with it, just showing the other end of the scale.

i currently have a fluval 403 4 404's and i have never ever had a problem with any one of them. I also have an FX5 for the 6x2x2 tank when the fish house is up and running. If i dont run a fluval internal in any of the other tanks, i run biofoams.

Can honestly say that i have never had a problem with any of my fluvals and all are very quiet in deed (i have 2 in my lounge and they cant be heard!)

I have 3 Fluval 1+, a Fluval 2 and 2 Fluval 305. I find them to be excellent and have had no problems at all.

Ian...

Now i'm sure there is a reason for this, as I know you are the deep thinker that has been solving my baby and universe problems.. But.. you have 3 fluvals that you hate. perhaps you thought the first was a one off mistake and bought a second one.. but a third?

Now please put my mind at rest as to why you have 3 of them...

Confused of Guildford..

Have to admit, I've been using fluval filters of various types of 20 years, and never had a problem. I've also used Eheim, Marathon (long extinct, I think), and Rena filters, and not found very much to choose between them.

Cheers,

Neale

I also use and love my Fluval FX-5 and swear by it, to everyone that it is the very reason I dont have algae growth or nothing more then crystal clear water all the time. I also have a 403 that works really good in conjuction with two 802 Powerheads in a 135 GALLON tank, That I find amazingly clear even when My huge 13 Inch Red Devil Decides its time for renovations.LOL

The Zoo! From Canada! Eh!

Not used the big Fluval canisters, but have used other filters of theirs and wasnt overly impressed, but it did the job. I now have 2 Eheims (soon to be 3). The Eco 2236 and a small Powerball internal of which i may purchase another one for the new tank.

The trouble is for everyone person that has had good experiences with fluval filters it seems that someone else has had a bad experience with them, and its the bad experiences that stand out.

Personally i've owned 2 Fluval externals, both 304 models and both of them were nothing but trouble from the first time they had to be cleaned, difficult to restart after maintainance, leaked from around the seals and the double taps and the motors would stop working for no apperent reason, both of them met their demise at the bottom of the garden after being kicked down the stairs and out of the flat.

On the other hand i own 7 eheim externals and have never had any problem with any of them, statistics speak for themselves.
