Fluval Filter

Hi
i use the fluval 2 plus filter system in my 54 ltr tank.the two foam pads are the main parts in the filter but with the box came optional carbon and polyester pads which can be added between the foam pads.
i know what carbon and polyester pads do but i was wondering from other users experience,is it necessary to always use one of them between the foam pads or do you normally just use the foam pads on their own and only use carbon or polyester pads when required....

I usually just run the foam in mine. I have the exact same filter in my growout tank.

The "wool" filter in the middle is to remove the extra-fine particles. It can give the water an extra "sheen" that can look nice

I have the fluval 2+ and 3+. Use the white wool to "polish your water". It really scrubs mine crystal clear. And keep the carbon incase you have to remove a medication. (oh and well done for searching through to find the similar thread about this some weeks back!)

ive been using the wool so it looks like ive been alright on that front,although im going to increase the flow and lower the filter a bit as suggested in another thread..

I have a Fluval 4 (as you can see on the left of the tank) and I rarely use the wool, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
