Hi

Just a quick post to make people aware of some things that have happened to my Fluval edge tank accesories.

Firstly i bought the fluval edge specific heater with the tank, this had been working ok but did keep the temp a little to cold for my liking, last week it decided to stay on(pilot light)permanantly but it gave of less heat than before!!obviously i have replaced this.Has anyone else had problems with this heater?and are their any other heaters that would fit well in to the edge tank?

Next, and this is my own fault but i dont want anyone else making the same mistake.I bought some MR11 LED lights to replace the halogen ones that came with my fluval edge, stupidly i bought them of a japanese company advertising on ebay, they even advertised them for use with the fluval edge!after installing them and everything looking great i started to be aware of a burning smell,i checked the lights and they were melting at the front and a brown sticky liquid was coming from them.i dont no if they are the wrong type of light or LED lights cant be insatlled in the fluval but if you do take this route for lighting, please buy from a decent retailer and not go for the cheap option like me!

Tom.

Unfortunately you arent the first and wont be the last...

Hagen have made their light unit to run on very low watt halogen bulbs and ANY other bulb other than their own will destroy the unit which is NOT covered by the warrantee unless you use their bulbs.

Personally, the lights were no good for me when i had marines in my edge tank and so i took the whole light unit off and got TMCs Nano LED tile (though it doesnt fit easy!) best mod i was was someone got a tiny strip of LEDS and fitted the strip around the U shape of the light unit!!!

As for the heater... i think Hagen should be ashamed of themselves for such a shoddy product, i had to make sure mine definatly didnt work before i returned it as faulty as it didnt heat tank about 18-20 degrees celsius... and thats when it WAS working!!

Ironically, the best heater for the Edge tank i found was the BiOrb heater or the Supafish 50W Nano heater.

That said, same goes for all products, if your light unit breaks on any tank and you havent been using aquatic specific bulbs, (lots of household bulbs would fit) then your light unit isnt covered under warantee! The shop has every right to refuse a refund/replacement... which would be a bummer as most replacement light units on the Romas, Juwels, Aquatropics, Marinas etc are all £100 +
