hi ppl

does any1 use a fluval 105? or tne "05" range

im thinking of investing in 1 and i wanted some reviews

would you recomend it

thanks
adam

The Fluval 105 is a brilliant piece of equipment. As is the 205, 305 and 405! (Oh yeah and FX5!)
They are extremely easy to prime and run and require very little maintanece. They aren't too big either which is good when you take into account cabinet space etc. Compared to their Rena counterparts they are much better. I would certainly recommened going for a 105. :good:

thanks! thats what i wanted to hear!

do you think £30 is reasable for the 105?

what model do you have

adam

i don't really like fluvals, they're great for a couple of years but then they go downhill rapidly and everything starts breaking. good filters but not built to last IMO

personally i'd go for an eheim instead

do you think £30 is suitable for a 105???

I, and many other members of this board, would not have a fluval even if fluval offered me money for it.

Within 12 months they become a ***** to restart after use and they have a great habit of failing at the seals after 2 years. I have had two Fluval externals and shall have no more.

As Miss Wiggle says, Eheim are generally regarded as the best, though you do pay for that quality. Rena and Tetra both seem to make fairly good filters at a low cost.

you could get something much better for £30 IMO.

try ebay there's always tonnes of stuff around.

eheim are definately my favourite, worth spending a little bit extra on.

if your on a budget rena are also great filters, my only complaint is ours is slightly noisy..... however it now gets drowned out by the noise of teh bloody skimmer  lol

I had a Fluval 304 and had nothing but problems with it since the day we bought it. It always leaked beacuse it would never seat probarly and it always took us a minumum of an hour just to get it working properly, often times it took longer. I can't tell you how many times we had to take the Fluval back to the store to have repairs done on it for constant leaking and cracked o rings. We probably could have bought five other filters for all the work we had to have done on just that one. The final straw was when we had a hurricane come through and we lost power, the Fluval proceded to drain all but about 10 gallons out of our 75 gallon tank. We came home to an almost empty tank, stressed out fish and massive water damage, not from the storm, but from the stupid filter. Hence forth, the Fluval found its way to the trash.

My advise to you? Don't get a Fluval, and if you must make sure it has a written warrenty. You're money could probably be better spent elsewhere.

RENA? So you'd be quite happy recommending a filter with no biological filter media as standard?

I've had no problems with my fluval external's. I do agree that Ehiem make good externals but I honestly see nothing wrong with the Fluval externals.

I have less problem recommending a filter that you have to go out and buy some media for than a filter which is known to leak and cause no ends of problems. Not to mention most Eheim filters don't come with media.

I saw nothing wrong with Fluval externals, then one started leaking all the time after two years. The second one (bought 6 months after the first) soon started leaking as well. I then found that many others have this problem as well. Fluvals seem to have a habit of breaking, that is why I cannot recommend them.

Mine was the recent 04s. The 05s are almost identical to the latter 04s (which slowly evolved through their term).

It is not just me that has had problems. CFC, TheWolf and at least two others on chat have bemoaned them. Added to this are a number of threads in the hardware section over the last couple of years with people moaning about leaking fluvals. It's just too common for my liking.

whoohoo another discussion about fluval vs eheim..and who says there a no new topics anymore?!?

simply answer, Eheim rock, fluval suck....end of story. I would never own a fluval again.

Other than Eheim, I'd recommend the tetra tec range...very reliable.

Well, it seems i'm the only person on the forum who thinks the Fluval's are good pieces of equipment! I currently have 4 running with no problems, 2 of them are over 2 years old. Well, in answer to the posters question.. I would recommend the Fluval 105.
