Hi I have a Fluval 104 and was wondering what the best media is to place inside? I currently have
foam inserts
Activated Carbon
Wool
Ammonia Things

I know the Activated Carbon needs to come out i was thinking of replacing that with Peat.

Any Idea's

Thank you

u can add peat if u want to lower the pH yes, or u can use those 'hoola hoop' things (sorry, carnt think of the name lol)

What you put in your filter will depend on what you want to accomplish with your planted tank and what additives (like fertilizers, iron,.....) you plan on putting in your tank.

Fluval makes pete granuals for their filters. You'll have to get a mesh bag for the pete if you go that route. Seachem makes a liquid CO2 (depending on the size tank you have this might be a way to go), trace elements, iron, and several other plant "needy" things.

Here's some Plant resources that I highly recommend you read. Obviously you won't read them all but do try to read the Karen Randall articles as well as some of the Krib reading. That should be a good beginning. As always if you need more help just holler! Rose

Thanks for the link Rose. I don't know much about plants but am willing and looking forward to learning. I'll print off the articles and have a read in bed tonight.

My tank is small only 30 x 15 x 15 so will i need the CO2?

I'll no doubt ask about the Iron, trace elements and what not later on lol :D :D

I generally say....you don't know what you'll need for your tank till it's been running and you see what the plants are doing. I'll be more than happy to help you out with what I can. Just let me know. Rose
