Floating Plants

I have a whole bunch of floating plants that multiply pretty quickly. On the ground level of the same tank, I keep trying to plant Swords and tall grass plants. But they never live. Do they need so much light that if floaters cover half the surface, the ones beneath won't live?

Floating plants do block the light, and you may have problems with other plants not receiving enough light. I've had this problem before, too. I guess it's time to remove some of those floating plants!
