I am on the verge of a snail infestation. I must have 50 of the little pest snails in my tank, i keep removing them but they continue to multiply.

I wanted to add a clown loach as it would be well fed in my tank. My problem is I cannot provide a healthy environment for one in my small tank. Does anyone have suggestions for other small snail eaters that i could keep one maybe two in my community tank. The tank's in my profile and my sig.

I have Bengal loaches aka Queen loaches (Botia dario), they stay quite small, BUT you will need 3 as they are social creatures and love being in groups  You will also need to provide them with hiding places as they are quite shy, but they will obliterate your snails. I also had them in a 2 foot tank, though they are now in a 4 footer and have reached around 3" each.

50 snails isn't a lot, at one point I was taking over 100 per day out of my tank

Another option though much slower it to get Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS), they are good snails that eat leftover food, turn the substrate over and do not eat live plants, they also eat other snails btu take a while to get going. Be aware though that these also reproduce like mad.

The manual method that worked best for me was to nuke a lettuce leaf for about 20 secs (this makes it more flexible), then weight it down on the bottom of the tank, turn the lights off and wait, after a few hours pull it out with the snails on. It also works well with cucumber & courgette (zucchini).

Hiya :)

I don't think my 3 clown loaches have read they are meant to like snails, as well as the various size apple snails I have in my tank, I also get the small pest snails when I buy new plants and they don't get touched.
Yesterday when I fed my fish I put in the sinkable wafers and noticed one of the clowns was trying to eat a wafer while getting crushed at the same time by half a dozen apple snails :/
