Fish Shop Recommendations

I bought my tank and all the bits from Maidenhead Aquatics, which has a branch at our local garden centre. It seems like quite a good set up, the fish all look healthy enough, no dead ones floating etc.

Does anyone have any experience of whether this is a good place to get my fish? Or suggestions of any other shops in the area (Bromley, Orpington, Sevenoaks or somewhere in that area)?

Jackswood aquatics @ select pets & garden center, Sundridge near Sevenoaks
is the best in that area IMHO.
try Heaver Tropicals in Ash which looks like a shop from the 70's but is good.

a little futher out for you is Aylesford aquatics in Aylesford (A20) but well worth the trip.

oh and I'm guessing that your local Maidenhead is the one in Poll Hill garden centre,
they are ok but a bit pricey for me liking.

pets@home in crayford and chatham, dartford aquatics (in dartford), aquacadabra in barnhurst/bexleyheath and aquatec in Northumberland heath, iirc Heaver Tropics (ash near new ash green) theres also maidenhead aquatics @ halwley road garden center

Best thing to do is visit a few places and make your mind up for yourself IMHO. i like aquacadbra myself (really good prices on tanks and dry goods)


nearly forgot you also have birchwood aquatics (just outside swanley) and ruxley garden center (not brilliant)

I'd go with Birchwood Aquatics in Swanley (by the old Deja Vu nightclub), its got another branch in Wyevale Garden center on
Oakley Road in Bromley if as well.

Which Maidenhead Aquatics did you go to? Polhill? They always seem good, but a couple of times, maybe when too many
people are on holiday I've been in there and the tanks looked really grubby.

I bought my tank from Ruxley, but tbh I wouldn't buy fish from there, I've bought all mine from Birchwood/the one in Wyevale.
I bought half a dozen cherry shrimp from Maidenhead@Polhill and they're all doing well.

Aquacadabra I keep meaning to visit, and I'll try some of the others as well.

i have used Aquacadabra quite a lot staff can be a bit non commital but thay have sorted the tanks out in the last few months only a small tank room but that have a large selection and the odd rare fish lately thay have had a selection of plecs bn,king tiger,golden nugget,albino gibby spotted a jack dempsy in there yesturday too. if you into marines thay have a small selection as i said before there prices are good if you see something on there ebay shop there match the price too

must admit ruxley was a let down seemed very dated and not that clean. Going to have another trip out birchwood when i get the time

I have only been to the Pol Hill Maidenhead once but I did spend quite a long time in there (took me over two hours to drive there so I made sure I took a good look around ). It looked like a really good store (its about X5 bigger then any store that is near me) and the staff where really friendly and helpful (even on a busy weekend afternoon).

Yes, it's Polhill which is nearest to me. I was quite impressed, but I might try the one in Swanley too and maybe take a few trips out to visit others.
