Alrite folks, saw these fish in my LFS last friday and cant remember the name of them now.

they looked like they could be a larger member of the tetra family (about 6" long). had a silver body and red tail with a kinda rounded head (think african cichlid but a bit rounder)

and what i really liked about it was it was like a torpedo.

flew across the tank with barely any movement of the fins and then came to a complete stop in another blink and youll miss it style move.

any ideas what they were?

Hi SamUK,

Sounds like it could be a Chalceus macrolepidotus 'Pink-Railed Characin'. Grows to about 10 inches SL according to fishbase.

All the best,

Triskele

Here's a few more longshots:

Pink Tailed Barb 'Leptobarbus hoeveni',
Signal Barb 'Labiobarbus festivus'
Sidebar Barb 'Hampala macrolepidota',
Tinfoil Barb 'Barbodes schwanenfeldi' (this one is probs too deep in profile, though I don't know at what size their bodies start to deepen.

Do you remember if the fish had an adipose fin ?

ttfn,

Triskele
