I came down to find my fish gasping this morning. Did a water test, and the peramaters are as follows.

Ph 7.0
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 10 ppm

Temp 26C

Filtration. Eheim Ecco 2236 on a 180 ltr Juwel Vision with spray bar partly above water line.

Inhabitants:

Shoal of Corydoras, Bristlenose and 5 tiny Angelfish.

Any ideas, because I cant think of any. The corydoras are worse, and they spawned the day before yesterday, but have been fine since.

Could the tank water have been contaminated with some other chemical perhaps? Anyone sprayed anything in the room - air fresheners, perfume, polish etc?

When was the last water change done?

Athena

Absolutely no chemicals near the tank. Last water change was Thursday of last week.

Bit of a mystery then Julia. Can I just check what type of water testing kit you use and how old it is?

A few other things for you to check:

1. Aeration - does your tank have an airstone?
2. Pump - is this blocked or not working effectively for some reason?
3. Has temp increased at all this week?

The fish are fine now. I think I have discovered the problem, but this in itself poses a problem!!!!

I had a re-stock in my tank last week, and removed 20+ community fish and replaced them with 5 small angels. I think that my Garra Flavatra (who has always been so docile) thinks he is top of the tank, and has been harrassing my cories. If he doesnt stop it he will have to go!!!!!

How are the fish now.

Thanks Wilder, ther fish are fine now! My Garra seems to have calmed down a bit. I put 3 bits of cucumber in tonight and he was happy to share. I have noticed that quiite a few of the Cories and Bristlenoses have split tails and fins, but I am treating with Melafix. Fingers crossed, or else the Garra goes!!!

Never kept them so havent a clue i'm afraid. Lazy when it comes to learning about fish types.
Good luck hope he behaves himself.
