Today I went to Petsmart to get some betta food I found a couple of signs saying there was a recall but no information. The salesman said it was a mislabeling thing. When I got home I started going through the posts on other forums as well as this one nothing showed up. I googled it and this link showed up http://petsitusa.com/blog/?p=375

that is the list being recalled. It was recalled May 30th and this is the first I have heard about it.

oh wow that is very interesting! I have never heard about anything like this....hmmmm

The companies have confirmed that Tembec added melamine as part of the formulation of the products to improve the binding properties of pelleted feed. Melamine is not approved as an additive for animal or fish/shrimp feed.

Well that's not good! -_-

Especially since the primary reason melamine is added is NOT to "improve the binding properties" but in fact, melamine is a very high nitrogen compound, just like protein. Melamine is added so that when the standard tests are performed, the nitrogen readings are higher and the assumption used to be (before these pet food recalls) was that higher nitrogen reading = higher protein. And, of course, the higher protein the food, the more you could charge for it. Tests for melamine and like compounds will now become part of the stardard test because you can't trust people to not put money first.
