Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
Fish had babies about two weeks ago. She is in her own separate 5-gallon tank. As of yesterday afternoon she was happy and active with an appetite. She seemed a bit listless last night but otherwise normal. This morning we noticed that she was just floating around most of the time instead of more active swimming. Her tail fin is working but seemed a bit bent to one side and she was using it less than usual. She has no appetite, and occasionally seemed to jerk herself to propel around the water. She was still using her side fins but with less gusto than usual. She is in a tank that has been cycling for about two weeks and has generally seemed happy. The monitors have not changed. We do daily water changes of 25% to 50%. This morning we did two immediate back to back 50%+ water changes. She has now essentially crashed to the bottom.
We've only had this fish for about three weeks. Early on another fish in the tank she used to be in got ich and died. We treated and she showed no symptoms. Since we've had her we notice long, stringy poops, sometimes red (the color of her food), sometimes whitish or clear. She had more of these when she was pregnant but my husband noticed a particularly long, whitish one in the past day or two.
She has no strange markings on her body, no white spots or red streaks. Hard to say if she's bloated -- perhaps a little. I doubt she could be delivering babies. She just had some 2 1/2 weeks ago (much to our surprise).
Could she have constipation? We've read it can mimic swim bladder disease and my husband has gone to the store for peas. But with her crashed at the bottom with no appetite I'm afraid she won't eat them.
We have a small tank that fits inside the larger one as a breeding tank or to separate injured fish from each other. Would it be wise to move her to this to bring her higher to the surface or would this disturb or stress her too much. Please help! She's deteriorating quickly!
The fast deteriation is puzzling. Can a fish take ill and deteriorate this quickly?
