As some of you may know, I'm a dispatcher for a Police/Fire Department at a small airport in Kansas. The airport here is a little unusual in that it is a former Air Force base, so not only do we have aircraft, but an industrial area with around 100 business. We had the old base church that had gone through many hands, but had been vacant for the last 5 years. It was decided that it would be cheaper to demolish it than refurbish, and instead of hiring a company to do it, the officers got to use it for training. Since we have 3 shifts that work 24 hours on and 48 hours off, the church was burned for 3 days in a row, and completely burned down on the third day. I got the rare opportunity to go take pictures on the last burn day and though I'd share them with all of you.
As you'll see in the pictures, the church was already partially burned, and unfortunately I didn't get to see it burn to the ground since I had to go home and get some sleep before going back on duty that night (I work third shift), but I got some pretty good pics all the same. Once the fire started I was about 50-100 yards away, all of the pics were taken with a Canon Powershot S5, and it was the first time I had really used it, so they're not perfect. I took a ton of pics so this will be topic 1 of 3, and I'll post the next 2 topics once I get the rest of the pics uploaded on photobucket, which takes forever. Hope you all enjoy.
