I want to start a brackish tank and i have read that the filters that hang over the tank can be used, Is this true or do i need to set up a wet dry filter?
For marine aquariums, many people use the live rock for filtration, not filters. My two problems with HOTB filters are that most will not start up again after a power cut and for the ones with a bio-wheel, the wheel will dry out very quickly during a power cut.Im a big fan of aquaclear hang on filters. They run forever. I agree with the above post that any approprietly sized filter would be fine for fresh, brackish, or marine aquariums. Just depends on your prefrence and really what you are willing to spend on the tank. I prefer hang on filters or canisters on any aquarium but many hobbyists I know prefer a sump system.
