anyone ever use filter floss in an aquaclear 300?..........i saw some white batting material in petsmart...........is that what they mean by filter floss?.........do u just lay it on top of the sponge? or is it put in some kind of bag? is polyester floss the same thing?........i have even seen the term "filter rocks".......can they be used also.???

I have an AquaClear 300 and fill the chamber over the sponge with filter floss. It increases the amount of beneficial bacteria greatly and is a very good thing to do.
You can either get filter floss from the lfs, or use polyester quilt batting from a sewing store or department. It's the same thing. Do be sure that you only use the polyester type, not cotton or a mixture.
Just take a big wad and put it in on top of the sponge. It will last a long time if you just rinse it out every now and then in the water you remove from your tank during water changes. Do not rinse it, or your sponge, in tap water.
