Filter cleaning

Have had my tank for over 2 weeks now, have changed 1/4 water twice. In transit I left some of the water in the tank and kept the old water in some buckets.

However i have been moving things around, adding new fish adding new stones.

One of the catfish has always looked stress the other quite happy; he or she is a lighter colour then the happy one. Is this gender?

Any case back to filters, my filter seems to be less powerful now can i clean it now or should I wait and allow the tank and fish to settle down?

I understand i must clean the filter using original tank water. And the filter should be returned ASAP.

my filter is a sponge filter, and I’m also using a air stone.

So much I learn – hope I’m not being a pain…
