Hey all, ive had a female guppy who has abit of a weird problem, im going to go straight to the problem, she looks heavily pregnant but instead of it being brown/black at the rear of her it was red!! she is heavily breathing aswell...ive already moved her over to her own space in the tank (divider which consist of about 30Litre) anyway a little background info on her as i see it relavent,

she had guppy fry about a month ago now and she also droped anouther few around 2 weeks after this. to top that of only a week ago she had anouther batch  very odd, i belive she was holding them....but before she got this problem she was almost ready to drop! she had nearly squared of....very worried about this one

I think you will get more helpful advice over in the livebearer section of the forum.
Do you mean her gravid spot looks red or her anus.

Just check for fish for these signs.
Inflamed red anus, or enlarged anus.
Fish look skinny or bloated.
Long stringy white poo, or clear mucas poo.
Sunken in belly.
Bent spine.
Fish swim on there sides.
Worms prutruding from the anus.

got it, well she has none of them apart from the redness in her gravid spot sorry i should have said that i totaly forgot what it was called, she seems very distraught at the moment, im pretty worried about her

My yellow female has a red gravid patch, seems strange for her to be dropping so frequently though...

i know i didnt think anything of it, she onyl released a few i dont think she even managed 20 on the first batch! i was only saying in anouther thread about how she managed it....i also rememebr reading about them absorbing there fry...but surly she couldnt at such a late stage?? or do you think its possible?

Have you also posted in the livebearer section of the forum.

All I know is that guppys can hold onto fry and give birth when it suits them.
But not sure how long they can hold on. Think at the most a week.

Also giving birth all the time takes it's toll on them.

How is she today.

well today she is back to normal, her gravid spot it back to a dark brown/black....though no where near as dark as it was, and she still looks like she has nearly squared of....going to keep her in the cut of area of the tank just for abit to keep an eye on her. no ive not posted in there yet i dont think i need to yet thanks for ur help tho :good: :good:

I think she needs a rest from giving birth. But they carry sperm for several months if there lived with males.

got it, thanks for your help, im going to leave her on her own for abit, ive also gone out and got anouther 3 females so the male can harrash someone else lol

Ok. Thanks for the update.
It better to have more females to males, I agree.
