hi all, when feeding my angle fish i use flake which they eat but not very much but when i feed my pleco i use pellets but the angels love them and eat them before the pleco, can i feed them these? and how do i make sure the pleco gets his share?

Hi Fish Runner :)

Sometimes angelfish who haven't been away from the breeder very long can be quite picky. Some breeders feed their angelfish a lot of bloodworms and live food so they'll grow faster, making room for a new brood more quickly. My most recent pair of angels had to be denied all but flake food for about four or five days so they'd take it. Now, I'm able to feed them all sorts of yummy treats and they'll still accept flake when it's given.

Also, depending on the size of your angels (I believe yours are those beautiful marble/blush crosses, right? :) ), they may prefer flake made for larger fish (just bigger pieces of flake). I find that my bigger angels only want the large flake food or the granules/pellets made for larger fish (and anything live or frozen).

What kind of pellets are you feeding the pleco? If they're vegetarian (which they should be) like spirulina or algae, it's fine for your angels to eat them, but they need more protein than that, so they need other things, too.

If you're worried about your pleco not getting his share, try putting something really yummy in the tank (bloodworms or live mosquito larvae) for the angels at the same time. Also, feeding your pleco after lights out will help quite a bit.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the info, my pellets are jmc catfish pellets don't know weather they are vegetarian or not it says oil 12% protein 48% ash 8% fibre 1.3% maybe they are??

also will try the lights out idea too :) i read somewhere that the pleco is more active at night
