one of my 5 danios is fat! ive read it must be full of eggs and they are a scatterer but she is still fat two month on. anyone help?i feel a bit stupid as i have had several litters of platties and am ok with live bearers but im a bit stumped with these!thank you!

If you want to breed them a simple trigger is get a new tank and half fill it with tank water and then other half with cool treated tap water.

Transfer them into it quickly (3-5 mins) and the shock can tigger them into breeding with in 2 hours.

However then the hard part come's along.....rearing the fry is not easy and you should think about getting liqua fry fod, micro worms and brine shrimp....
All lovely stuff and breeding egg layers is a nice step on from livebearers.

thanks for that but how do they trigger? i have 5 in my tank and they are all female and the preg or fat one is the only pearl one. if i put her in the nursery tank with the water as you say will she just start laying??

Well if you only have one pearl then there is little that can be done, I'll just leave her then the eggs will absorb.

If you want to breed then u need more pearl danios, and just changing the tank and water is enough to make them breed.

But the man thing is if you prepaaired to get you own live foods for the fry, if not then there is no point thinking of moving on to some more difficualt like them.

thanks for that. i have read that they absorb the eggs but i wasnt 100% as she is still big after so long. once again many thanks and good luck with the race for life my wife has just done it in kent. i would have liked to have done it too but no men allowed!? if you want to send me a pm on thursday(payday) i will sponser £5. many thanks

Thanks for the offer and if you wish to the she'll be very please, she ran it this morning funny enough and done it in a personal best of of 43 mins which is almost 10 mins faster than last year.

Do danios not run the risk of toxic shock with unspawned eggs, is it just pearls....
Sorry, not a breeder, never heard of eggs being absorbed, i may have a go with my zebras some time soon.
Any info?

course when anything is reabsorbed some toxins are created, but some time they will shed them as well.

But it's usually not a problem either way.
